Progress so far
Well, there are two days left before the jam ends and I’m pretty happy with how my game is coming along! It’s nothing special, or even very good, but I think it can provide a bit of entertainment. The only major things left to do are the ending sequence, which I will talk about later as well as some polish if I have the time.
This is my first game jam I actually committed to and it really put me in a different headspace. I have never finished a project before. I’m always starting new projects and saying I’ll get back to it later. I thought working in a game jam would be good because I can only get things done on tight deadlines, and (no jinxes) so far my thinking seems correct. The seven day limit also forced me to pick a simple game idea instead of expanding it to fit the deadline. Having gotten past the point where I usually get distracted means I got to work on some stuff I tend to plan for later and never end up doing because I start a new project such as post-process materials and other level design. I made a simple cell shader and outline post-process that give the game way more personality.
In the next two days I hope I can get the last few things done for the game. The end of the level is a big door that needs 3 buttons to be activated to open it. The door takes 30 seconds to open and right now you just hit the buttons and wait 30 seconds for the door to open but I want to have some sort of last stand type battle. My idea is that enemies keep spawning as you have to hold out until the door opens. Aside from that my other priority is polish. The game looks okay but certain things could be a bit better.
